British Columbia municipalities awarded federal infrastructure grants worth up to $4.5 M
Several municipalities and regional districts in British Columbia have been granted federal infrastructure funding through the Build Communities Strong Fund (BCSF) Strategic Priorities Fund. The Village of Montrose received $2.44 million to replace a 65‑year‑old water reservoir and upgrade its distribution system. The City of Trail was allocated $4.53 million to construct a twin transmission watermain that will provide a critical backup for the municipal drinking‑water network. The City of Courtenay obtained $382,000 to develop a Recreation Facilities Strategic Plan for future recreation‑infrastructure investment. The District of Sparwood secured a $650,000 GATHER Grant from Columbia Basin Trust to build an accessible outdoor stage and permanent public washroom at Centennial Plaza. The Columbia Shuswap Regional District was awarded $2.8 million to build a septage receiving station at Revelstoke Mountain Resort, offering a local solution for residential and commercial septic waste. All of these projects are part of a broader $152 million package announced by the federal and provincial governments and the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) to support 54‑55 community infrastructure and capacity‑building projects across the province. The BCSF Community stream provides $2.5 billion annually to communities nationwide, with British Columbia receiving more than $310 million each year.
