TecLab modifies GeForce RTX 5090 with direct-soldered power cables

The Brazilian overclocking team TecLab has demonstrated a hardware modification on a Galaxy GeForce RTX 5090 D HOF OC LAB XOC graphics card. The modification involves soldering power cables directly to the PCB, effectively bypassing the standard 16-pin power connectors to eliminate contact resistance.

This experimental setup is designed to support extreme overclocking loads that could exceed 1,200W. During testing, the card successfully booted and completed benchmark sessions with an estimated power draw of approximately 600W. To manage the heat during these tests, the team used an industrial chiller and a liquid cooling circuit, as the original heatsink and fans were removed and replaced with 120mm fans secured by zip ties.

Experts warn that this modification is not intended for consumers. It permanently alters the hardware, voids all warranties, and requires advanced electrical knowledge. While the bypass demonstrates alternative power delivery paths, it introduces risks such as localized heating from current passing through solder joints and PCB copper.
