Tecámac reports 15% decrease in high-impact crimes
The municipality of Tecámac reported a 15% reduction in high-impact crimes between January and August 2026, according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP). Total cases dropped from 8,557 in the same period of 2025 to 7,282, representing 1,275 fewer incidents.
Significant decreases were noted in extortion, which fell by 51%, followed by residential robbery at 48% and vehicle theft at 41%. Other reductions included public transport robbery (29%), business robbery (26%), pedestrian robbery (21%), and homicides (21%).
Mayor Rosi Wong Romero attributed these results to prevention and surveillance efforts by the Civil Guard, which conducted over 10,980 security operations through various municipal programs. While the local government claims a cumulative 42% reduction in these crimes compared to 2019, the specific methodology and annual breakdowns for that comparison were not detailed in the report.
