Tecámac sees surge in homicides and dangerous highway accidents

The municipality of Tecámac in Mexico recorded its 24th homicide of 2026 after a man was found dead inside a Chevrolet vehicle in the Los Héroes neighborhood. Neighbors had heard gunshots and alerted authorities, who discovered the victim with at least six bullet wounds. Local observers note that Tecámac averages roughly one murder per week, sustaining concerns about public security despite recent changes in the municipal Guard's operations.

At the same time, the Mexico‑Pachuca highway segment that runs through Tecámac has been the site of several serious traffic incidents. A truck carrying tomatoes overturned at kilometer 31+500, blocking two lanes, and the previous day a trailer’s cargo fell near the Indios Verdes metro, causing long queues. The highway handles more than 86,000 vehicles daily, and officials identify the Ojo de Agua stretch in Tecámac as one of the most accident‑prone sections, citing excessive speed, unsafe lane changes, and mechanical failures as common factors.
