Tecnológico de Costa Rica delays admission results due to budget uncertainty

The Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC) has postponed the publication of its 2027 admission results until further notice. The institution cited uncertainty regarding its available budgetary resources for the upcoming year, as the Legislative Assembly reviews potential funding cuts for public universities.

The delay affects the results of the Academic Aptitude Test (PAA), as well as processes for score revalidation, score exemptions, and the Higher Education Articulation Agreement. While results were originally scheduled for release on Thursday, October 22, the TEC stated it must first obtain official budgetary information to properly plan academic activities and determine conditions for new student intake.

During August and September, 16,227 students across 156 educational centers took the PAA. The TEC initially aimed to enroll approximately 2,400 new students for 2027. The decision comes amid legislative discussions regarding the Special Fund for Higher Education (FEES), including a motion to cut ¢8,048 million from postponed funds, which would impact the five public universities in 2027.
