Tecon Suape faces cargo losses threatening operational viability

Tecon Suape, operated by ICTSI, is facing a significant loss of cargo volume that threatens the terminal's financial viability. The facility is losing Aliança Navegação e Logística's services to the new APM Terminals (a Maersk group company), which is scheduled to begin operations on September 1.

Adding to the impact, ICTSI reported that MSC has also communicated its intention to stop moving containers through the terminal. This secondary departure exceeds previous financial projections. ICTSI estimates that cargo movement could drop to approximately 450,000 TEUs per year, which falls below the operation's estimated break-even point of 550,000 TEUs.

In response to the MSC decision, ICTSI has filed representations with the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade), the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), and the National Waterway Transportation Agency (Antaq).
