TECSOL-FRUT project implements agrivoltaics for fruit crops

The TECSOL-FRUT project is implementing agrivoltaic technology to support the fruit sector in adapting to climate change while transitioning to sustainable energy. The initiative combines agricultural production with renewable electricity generation by installing solar panels near or above crops.

Coordinated by the Clúster de l’Energia Eficient de Catalunya (CEEC) and funded by the European Union and the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the project involves five entities, including the technological center Eurecat. The system utilizes mobile, adjustable solar panels, artificial intelligence, satellite imagery, and digital twins to optimize irrigation and monitor plant health in real time.

These agrivoltaic structures act as a shield against extreme weather, helping to moderate temperatures, reduce direct radiation, and limit water evaporation. This approach aims to protect fruit crops from heat stress and irregular precipitation while simultaneously producing clean energy on the same land.
