Ted Cruz attributes tight Senate polls to ‘left-wing transgender witches’

Texas Senator Ted Cruz has drawn criticism following remarks made during a Fox News interview regarding the competitive nature of upcoming midterm elections. While discussing why several Republican-held Senate seats are currently within the margin of error, Cruz stated, “And right now, if you’re a left-wing transgender witch, you hate Donald Trump, and you’re going to show up. You’re energized.”

Speaking from Fairbanks, Alaska, alongside Senator Dan Sullivan, Cruz suggested that the political environment is shaped by the mobilization of left-wing voters. He framed the election as a contest of turnout, questioning whether conservatives, libertarians, and “common sense Americans” would vote in sufficient numbers to counter the energy of opposing groups.

Senator Sullivan, who was present during the interview, has a legislative record involving opposition to transgender athletes participating in sports based on gender identity and criticism of gender-affirming care for minors, though he previously expressed opposition to a ban on transgender individuals serving in the military.
