Ted Cruz rejects potential U.S. Supreme Court appointment
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has emphatically rejected speculation regarding a potential appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court. During an appearance on the ‘Hang Out with Sean Hannity’ podcast, Cruz stated that his response to such a nomination would be ‘not just no, but hell no.’
Cruz explained that while he reveres the Supreme Court as an institution, he prefers to remain active in politics and policy battles. He noted that a principled federal judge must stay out of political fights, whereas he enjoys campaigning and fighting for specific issues such as national security and law enforcement.
Donald Trump has previously mentioned Cruz as a possible nominee, jokingly suggesting that Cruz might receive unanimous support from both parties simply because lawmakers would want him out of Congress. Cruz, a Harvard Law School graduate who clerked for Chief Justice William Rehnquist, emphasized his preference for the legislative and political arena over a lifetime judicial position.
