Ted Lasso Season 4, Episode 9 features major character death and tribute

The penultimate episode of Ted Lasso Season 4, titled “Mae Rides the Bus,” has aired on Apple TV, delivering significant narrative shifts and emotional developments. The episode features the Lady Greyhounds securing promotion following a victory against Bristol, highlighted by a crucial goal from Shannon Stone.

However, the episode is marked by tragedy following the death of Mae Green, the beloved owner of The Crown & Anchor pub, played by Annette Badland. The character passed away during the match, a storyline Badland confirmed in interviews. The episode also serves as a tribute to actor Anthony Head, who played the series' antagonist Rupert Mannion and passed away earlier this year.

Other major plot points include Keeley Jones receiving life-changing news regarding a potential pregnancy and the ongoing mystery of a takeover attempt at AFC Richmond, which was revealed to be orchestrated by Zelda Southport rather than Rupert. As Season 4 approaches its finale on October 7, speculation regarding a fifth season continues, with reports suggesting potential production in London for 2027.
