Ted Lasso Season 4 breaks Apple TV+ viewership records

The fourth season of Ted Lasso has set a new viewership record for Apple TV+. According to Nielsen data, the season premiere accumulated 296.6 million viewing minutes in the United States during its two-day launch window on August 4 and 5.

On August 5 alone, the series was the most-streamed program in the U.S., accounting for over 200 million minutes. This performance surpasses the platform's previous records, including the debuts of Severance and the show's own third season.

This new installment marks a narrative shift for the series. After a multi-year hiatus following what was intended to be the third season's finale, Ted Lasso returns to Richmond to coach a second-division women’s football team, the Lady Greyhounds. The season features returning cast members Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift, alongside new additions such as Tanya Reynolds.

While the viewership numbers have been record-breaking, critical reception has been mixed. Some reviewers have praised the fresh direction of focusing on the women's team, while others have expressed skepticism regarding the series' ability to maintain its original charm.
