Teddy Bridgewater announces retirement from NFL

NFL quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has officially announced his retirement from professional football. The 33-year-old, who was serving as a backup for the Detroit Lions, confirmed the decision via social media, stating that his body can no longer recover from the physical demands of the sport.

Bridgewater’s career was marked by a significant comeback following a devastating knee injury in 2016. After being selected 32nd overall by the Minnesota Vikings in 2014, he became a Pro Bowler before his injury. He went on to play 12 seasons across various teams, including the New Orleans Saints, where he notably led the team to five consecutive wins in 2019 during Drew Brees’s absence.

In his retirement announcement, Bridgewater noted that he chose to listen to his body to ensure his long-term health for his family. Following his departure, the Detroit Lions signed Josh Dobbs to a one-year deal to serve as the backup to Jared Goff. Bridgewater finishes his career with 15,182 passing yards, 75 touchdowns, and 47 interceptions.
