Teddy Riner withdraws from Lima Grand Prix after training injury

French judoka Teddy Riner announced on 5 August 2026 that he will miss the Grand Prix de Lima, scheduled for 14‑16 August, due to an injury sustained in training. He said on X that he will undergo additional medical examinations and, in agreement with his medical team, has decided not to risk competing.

Riner had been planning a comeback after winning two gold medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics, aiming to build momentum toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The withdrawal means he must seek qualification for the 2028 Games through the quota system, with upcoming events such as the Grand Slam in Lausanne and the World Championships in Baku still on his calendar.
