Teemu Suninen wins 2026 FIA European Rally Championship
Teemu Suninen has secured the 2026 FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) title following the Rally Ceredigion in Wales. By finishing second in the event, the Finnish driver, alongside co-driver Antti Haapala, mathematically clinched the championship one round ahead of the season finale.
Kris Meeke claimed victory at the Rally Ceredigion, driving a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2. This marked Meeke’s first ERC win in 20 years. Suninen, driving a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2, faced a challenging weekend that included two spins and a coolant leak, but managed to maintain enough of a lead in the standings to secure the title.
The championship result also saw Pirelli secure the ERC tire manufacturer title. Suninen becomes the first Finn to win the ERC absolute title since Esapekka Lappi in 2014. Following this achievement, Suninen expressed hope that the title will facilitate a return to the top-tier World Rally Championship (WRC) next season.
