Tanvi Sharma Becomes Youngest Champion at Taipei Open Super 300
India’s 17‑year‑old badminton prodigy Tanvi Sharma captured her first BWF World Tour title at the Taipei Open Super 300 in Taipei City on 2 August 2026. She defeated Vietnam’s sixth seed Thuy Linh Nguyen 21‑16, 21‑16 in just 36 minutes to claim the women’s singles crown.
The victory made Sharma the youngest champion in the tournament’s history at 17 years and 222 days, surpassing former record‑holder Tai Tzu‑Ying. She also became the youngest finalist ever, the first Indian woman to win the Taipei Open since Saina Nehwal’s 2008 triumph, and only the fourth Indian women’s singles player to secure a Super 300‑level title. Coached by Park Tae‑sang, former mentor of Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, Sharma’s win ended a 17‑year title drought for India at the event.
The Badminton Association of India hailed the achievement, noting Sharma’s “record‑breaker, champion” status and her place among India’s elite shuttlers alongside Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu and Devika Sihag.
