Speeding Crackdowns Highlight Multiple High‑Speed Violations in Europe and Canada

In late July 2026, authorities in several jurisdictions intercepted drivers for extreme speed violations. In the Swiss canton of Valais, a 15‑year‑old was stopped driving a Citroën Ami that had been illegally de‑restricted, reaching 72 km/h in a 30 km/h zone. The vehicle was immobilised and the driver and owner face fines and possible licence sanctions.

In France, two separate incidents were recorded. An 18‑year‑old with a probationary licence was caught driving at 170 km/h on a road limited to 100 km/h in the Orne department, while two drivers on the A75 autoroute in Aveyron were recorded at 186 km/h and 222 km/h, well above the 110 km/h limit. Their licences were withdrawn on the spot and the cars seized.

Further north, the Sûreté du Québec stopped a 21‑year‑old driver on Autoroute 15 near Laval who was travelling at 210 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. He received a CAD 2,068 fine, 24 penalty points and a seven‑day licence suspension. Police in each region warned that excessive speed remains a leading cause of deadly collisions and reiterated the penalties for such offences.
