Lecce province motorcycle crash kills 16‑year‑old Lorenzo, injures friend
A 16‑year‑old from Cursi, Lorenzo Polo, died in a severe motorcycle accident on provincial road 363 that links Maglie and Cutrofiano in the province of Lecce, Salento. The crash occurred on the night of 25 June 2026 when Lorenzo and a 16‑year‑old friend were riding a recently purchased Voge R125 to meet a group of friends. The motorcycle left the road and struck a wall and a traffic‑sign post; investigators are also considering that another vehicle may have been involved.
Emergency services, including Carabinieri and the 118 rescue team, arrived around 22:00. Lorenzo was pronounced dead at the scene, while his companion suffered serious injuries – facial trauma, a concussion and an exposed leg fracture – and was taken in critical condition to the Vito Fazzi Hospital in Lecce. Police are conducting investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The tragedy has prompted an outpouring of condolences from the local community, sports clubs and municipal authorities, with a day of mourning declared in Cursi.
