Ruth Medina Found Alive After Six-Day Search in Guayaquil

Ruth Kataleya Medina Lajones, a 16‑year‑old girl and sister of one of the four children killed in the 2024 Las Malvinas case, was reported missing on 29 July 2026 in the Las Malvinas sector of southern Guayaquil. The Fiscalía General del Estado opened a search, issuing an official alert and collaborating with the Comité Permanente por la Defensa de los Derechos Humanos (CDH), which called for the activation of the “Alerta Emilia” to accelerate the effort. Public notices with her description were circulated on social media and through official channels. After six days of intensive investigation, authorities confirmed her location on the night of 4 August 2026, reporting that she was found alive in Guayaquil. The case remains under investigation to determine the circumstances of her disappearance and to ensure her safety.
