Teenage homicide in Pereira, Colombia shocks community
Authorities in Pereira confirmed that the body of 16‑year‑old Juan Camilo García Rodas was found on July 5 in a semi‑forested area near La Arenera, about 12 metres from the main road. The victim suffered eight knife wounds—including six to the chest and two to the neck—and a gunshot wound to the face. He had disappeared the night before after leaving his home in the Monserrate neighbourhood. Police and forensic investigators are conducting a criminal investigation to determine the perpetrators and motive.
The discovery has generated deep sorrow among family, friends and local residents, who described the teenager as a happy and sociable young man with no prior criminal record. The case adds to a series of homicides reported in Pereira, where 85 killings have been recorded this year.
