Teenager admits to killing mother and pet in Incheon
An 18-year-old male admitted to killing his mother and a pet dog during his first trial at the Incheon District Court. The defendant, who faces charges of parricide and violations of the Animal Protection Act, acknowledged the facts of the indictment but claimed diminished mental capacity at the time of the crime.
According to his defense counsel, the teenager has suffered from mental health disorders for a long time. The defense argued that his actions stemmed from an abnormal mental state rather than a fully conscious will, requesting a psychiatric evaluation to determine his level of criminal responsibility. The defense also requested the dismissal of the prosecution's motion for electronic monitoring and probation.
The incident occurred on August 7 in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, after an argument between the teenager and his mother. Investigations revealed the motive was related to the mother's alleged past sexual assault of the son and her failure to apologize. The defendant reported the crime himself after the incident.
