A 19-year-old teenager, identified locally as Alan Creamer from Rooskeynamona, Mohill, has drowned during the Ballinamore Family Festival in County Leitrim. The incident occurred on Saturday night when the young man reportedly fell into a canal at Kiltymoodan.

Gardaí attended the scene in the early hours of the morning after receiving reports of a person in the water. Although he was pulled from the water, he was subsequently pronounced deceased. His body has been moved to a mortuary in Sligo for a post-mortem examination, and the coroner has been notified. The incident is being treated as a tragic accident.

In response to the tragedy, the Ballinamore Family Festival committee cancelled its planned fireworks display for Sunday night as a mark of respect. The committee expressed deep sadness and extended their thoughts to the family and friends of those affected. The festival, which has been running for over 60 years, was scheduled to run from August 9th to 16th.
