He was taken to the Pronto‑Socorro emergency department in Rio Branco and spent several days in an intensive‑care unit. On Saturday, 13 May, doctors confirmed brain death after completing a 24‑hour medical protocol. The community responded with widespread mourning and messages of condolence on social media.
