Jefferson kicked in a window with his bare foot to reach a terrified five-year-old girl. While another rescuer successfully pulled the girl to safety, Jefferson suffered a slashed Achilles tendon from the broken glass.

Tragically, a second five-year-old girl died at the scene. Additionally, an 87-year-old woman residing in the home was hospitalized in serious condition with burns.
