Teenager missing after being swept away at San Pedro beach

A 16-year-old teenager, identified by the initials D. F. P. N., disappeared in the waters of San Pedro beach in the Vice district, Sechura province, on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred when the teenager and a friend were caught by a strong current near the shore.

While the friend was successfully rescued by bystanders and local security personnel and taken to a health center for observation, the teenager was swept away by the waves. The two youths reportedly traveled from the Castilla district to the beach without notifying their families.

Search operations are currently being conducted by the National Police Salvage Unit, local authorities, and residents along the coastline. Family members have requested continued support from authorities and local fishermen to assist in the search. Local officials have issued warnings to beachgoers to exercise caution and avoid dangerous areas, noting that Piura has recorded thirteen drownings so far in 2026.
