Teenagers Save Drowning Man in Katowice Pond

On 21 June 2026, a man began to drown in Pond Barbara in Katowice, Silesian Voivodeship, Poland. Fifteen‑year‑old Eliza Kopera and seventeen‑year‑old Janek Tomczyk, students from I Liceum Ogólnokształcące in Tychy, were the first to notice the emergency.

The two teenagers jumped into the water, pulled the man to safety and performed CPR until a rescue helicopter arrived. The victim survived thanks to their swift action. Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident. The school praised the students, calling their conduct heroic and highlighting the importance of by‑stander intervention in life‑saving situations.
