Dafne Zapata Quintos death prompts criminal investigation at Tamaulipas military camp

A 13‑year‑old girl, Dafne Zapata Quintos, died after four days at the militarized summer camp of the Doenitz Academy in Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas. Autopsy results released by the Tamaulipas State Attorney General’s Office indicate asphyxiation with water in the lungs and signs of physical injury. Her mother, Alejandra Quintos, has publicly demanded justice, appealed to President Claudia Sheinbaum, and called for an independent forensic review. The case has been classified as a feminicide and a criminal investigation has been opened; the camp’s operations were suspended and protests have been staged outside the academy. The investigation is examining possible negligence, alleged systematic abuse, and the academy’s prior legal and financial troubles. Officials are collecting testimony from former students and reviewing security footage while providing legal assistance to the family.
