Teesside Hospice receives Outstanding CQC rating

Teesside Hospice in Middlesbrough has been awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an inspection in June. This marks an improvement from the facility's previous ‘Good’ rating.

The inspection covered several services, including a ten-bed inpatient unit, a Wellbeing Centre, a Bereavement Counselling Service, and a Lymphoedema Clinic. The hospice received ‘Outstanding’ marks in four of the five assessment areas: effective, caring, responsive, and well-led.

CQC officials described the hospice as an ‘exceptional service’ where staff and leaders work to provide high-quality end-of-life care. Inspectors noted the staff’s ability to go ‘above and beyond’ and praised the organization's commitment to addressing inequality and reaching disadvantaged groups. Gill Hodgson-Reilly, CQC deputy director of operations in the North East, stated that the service should serve as a model for other providers to learn from.
