Teófilo Gutiérrez announces football retirement for December

Colombian striker Teófilo Gutiérrez has announced he will retire from professional football in December after a 19-year career. The 41-year-old, currently playing for Atlético Junior, scheduled his farewell ceremony for December 19 at the Metropolitano Stadium in Barranquilla.

Gutiérrez described the event as his ‘last dance’ and expects an audience of approximately 65,000 people. The celebration is planned to include performances by three international artists and appearances by guests such as River Plate and members of the 2014 Colombian national team.

Throughout his career, Gutiérrez played for several prominent clubs, including Cruz Azul, Sporting Lisbon, Trabzonspor, and River Plate. During his time in Argentina, he won the Copa Sudamericana (2014), the Copa Libertadores, and the Recopa Sudamericana (2015). With Atlético Junior, he secured five league titles and two national cups. Internationally, he earned 52 caps for the Colombian national team, scoring 15 goals and participating in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
