Teófilo Gutiérrez leads Junior to victory and reveals long-term injury

Junior de Barranquilla secured a 2-0 victory against Independiente Medellín, marking their second consecutive win in the Liga BetPlay Dimayor 2026-II. Striker Teófilo Gutiérrez contributed to the win by scoring a penalty goal. Following the match, Gutiérrez expressed confidence in the team's offensive momentum, noting they have scored six goals in their last two matches, though he emphasized that the squad cannot be complacent as they remain distant from the top of the standings.

Gutiérrez also revealed that he has played for years with an untreated nasal septum fracture caused by a collision with midfielder Baldomero Perlaza. He stated that he has been unable to undergo surgery due to his professional commitments with Junior, noting that the club's schedule often prevented him from seeking medical intervention. The 41-year-old forward plans to address the injury following his retirement from professional football.

Junior is scheduled to face Atlético Nacional on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Atanasio Girardot stadium in a postponed match from the third round of the tournament.
