Teófilo Tabar Manzur appointed director of DGJA

Teófilo José Abrahán Leo Tabar Manzur has been sworn in as the new general director of the Dirección General de Juegos de Azar (DGJA) in the Dominican Republic. The appointment was made via Decree 684-26 by President Luis Abinader and was formalized by the Minister of Finance and Economy, Magín Díaz.

Tabar will hold the position in a transitional capacity while continuing his roles as the administrator of the Lotería Nacional and the coordinator of the Gambling Betting Regularization Process. His appointment follows the enactment of Law 86-26, which establishes a new regulatory framework for both in-person and online gambling activities.

The new law creates the DGJA as an autonomous and decentralized body under the Ministry of Finance and Economy, replacing the former Directorate of Casinos and Gambling. The legislative changes aim to increase transparency, prevent fraud and money laundering, protect minors, and address addictive behaviors within the sector.
