Regional waste management and sanitation efforts in Romania and Moldova

Various regional authorities in Romania and Moldova are implementing measures to address waste management and environmental sanitation.

In Ștefănești, Argeș, authorities have launched a large-scale cleanup operation in the Zăvoi area to remove massive amounts of illegally deposited waste. This follows inspections by a joint control commission and police interventions to identify those responsible and enforce legal sanctions.

In Moldova, the Ministry of Environment has signed contracts totaling nearly 6 million euros to improve waste management in the Nisporeni, Ungheni, and Călărași districts. The investment includes the construction of two transfer stations and the purchase of equipment such as 100,000 bins and various containers to facilitate separate waste collection.

Other regional activities include the successful containment of a landfill fire in Orhei, Moldova, after four days of intervention, and ongoing sanitation and maintenance efforts in Timișoara and Chișinău. Additionally, recycling initiatives and new industrial investments in the recycling sector are being reported in Cluj County, Romania.
