Tegucigalpa inaugurates flood mitigation works in Miramesí

In Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Central District Mayor Juan Diego Zelaya inaugurated a flood and landslide mitigation project in the Miramesí colony. Supported by the German development bank KfW, the project involved an investment of over 103 million lempiras to protect more than 50,000 people living near the Choluteca River.

The infrastructure utilizes cyclopean concrete, anchored pile screens, and concrete screens with anchors, including over 210 piles and 900 anchors to prevent landslides from reaching the riverbed and causing flooding. The project also created a new public plaza for local community recreation.

Separately, municipal cleaning crews in the Arturo Quezada colony are working to clear streets following heavy rains. The precipitation caused sediment, trash, and stones to accumulate in the streets and obstruct drainage systems, leading to localized flooding and traffic difficulties.
