Tegucigalpa road expansion: Honduras to expropriate land

Honduran Infrastructure and Transport Minister Aníbal Ehrler announced that the government has approved a decree for the expropriation of land for public utility to accelerate the expansion of the southern exit road in Tegucigalpa. Out of 108 identified owners, approximately 12 will be subject to expropriation to secure the necessary right-of-way for a four-kilometer stretch of the project.

The minister noted that the project is currently facing significant delays, with only 20% physical progress completed compared to the planned 50%. Current work has been limited to land owned by the Instituto de Previsión Magisterial (Inprema). Ehrler stated that the expropriated areas do not contain any residential buildings, which should minimize the impact on owners.

The total investment for the expansion project is $36 million, which includes the construction of 8.6 kilometers of road, three overpasses, and a four-lane highway. Additionally, $16 million has been allocated for a voluntary resettlement plan, consisting of $3 million in national funds and $13 million from financial agents.
