Tehran air quality reports mixed levels of pollution in August

Air quality in Tehran has fluctuated throughout August, with recent data from the Tehran Air Quality Control Company indicating a PM2.5 index of 77, placing the current status in the ‘acceptable’ category. While several stations in districts such as 6, 3, 4, 17, 14, 18, and 2 recorded ‘clean’ air, many other areas, including districts 1, 5, 13, and 22, reported ‘acceptable’ levels. Some stations in districts 19 and 21 reached ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups’ status.

Reflecting on the month of August, Tehran experienced 20 days of acceptable air quality and 11 days of air that was ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups’. Ozone was identified as a primary pollutant during this period. Comparing current trends to previous years, the city has seen varying levels of pollution, with specific days reaching ‘very unhealthy’ levels in the past. Since the beginning of the year, Tehran has recorded 12 clean air days and 116 acceptable air days.
