Tehran Municipality announces new transport contracts and urban renewal plans
Tehran Municipality spokesperson Abdolmotahar Mohammakhani has detailed several urban development initiatives, including new transportation agreements with China. A memorandum of understanding between the governments of Iran and China involves the purchase of 2,100 metro wagons for the country, with 150 allocated specifically to Tehran. Additionally, the municipality has entered into a direct contract with Chinese entities for new buses; two 26-meter three-compartment buses have arrived, and 31 two-compartment diesel buses are expected soon.
The municipality is also evaluating various models for taxi fleet expansion, including electric and smaller vehicle options. Regarding urban infrastructure, Mohammakhani noted that recent local plans have facilitated the renovation of dilapidated areas, specifically mentioning neighborhoods near the Hazrat Abdolazim shrine, Kan, and Islamabad. A new package of incentives designed to facilitate housing renovation is expected to be announced shortly.
