Tehran murder trial faces conflicting eyewitness testimony

A criminal trial is underway in Tehran regarding the fatal stabbing of a man named Lahrasab at a vegetable market. The case began after hospital officials reported that Lahrasab died from severe injuries sustained during a confrontation.

Police initially identified and arrested a suspect named Ramin based on eyewitness accounts. Although Ramin denied involvement and fled to western Iran to hide, investigators recovered his mobile phone at the crime scene and tracked his movements. Following the investigation, an indictment was issued.

During the court proceedings, the legal representative for the victim's family requested the death penalty, noting the family's extreme poverty. However, a key witness provided conflicting testimony in court, stating that the man currently on trial is not the individual who committed the murder. The witness claimed the actual assailant was a shorter man with tattoos on both arms and described a violent attack involving two individuals on a motorcycle.
