Tehran Police to crack down on smoky and uninspected vehicles

Tehran Traffic Police have announced a three-day enforcement operation starting Saturday, September 5 (14 Shahrivar), targeting vehicles that emit excessive smoke or lack valid technical inspections.

Colonel Ali-Asghar Sharifi, head of the Tehran Traffic Police, stated that the crackdown aims to address technical defects that threaten the safety of drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. Vehicles found without valid inspections will face penalties of 3 to 6 negative points on their driving records.

Authorities emphasized that possessing a technical inspection certificate is not sufficient if the vehicle is emitting smoke. Key technical violations subject to enforcement include faulty lighting, improper steering or wheel alignment, brake system defects, worn tires, broken windshields, and malfunctioning safety equipment such as airbags or ABS systems. Over 42,000 violations related to lighting and technical defects have already been recorded by the police this year.
