Tehran prisoner avoids execution after 11 years in prison
An Afghan national in Tehran has avoided execution after serving 11 years in prison for murder. The individual was originally convicted of killing a driver during a carjacking motivated by financial difficulties.
Following a reconciliation session at the Tehran Criminal Court, the victim's family agreed to pardon the prisoner in exchange for blood money (compensation). The settlement was facilitated by the defendant's family, relatives, and charitable donors, allowing the prisoner to escape the death penalty.
