Tehran reports 50% decrease in foreign student enrollment

The number of foreign students enrolled in Tehran schools has decreased by approximately 50%, according to Majid Parsa, the Director General of Tehran Education. Current enrollment stands at fewer than 30,000 students, down from roughly 60,000 in previous years.

Officials noted that while new enrollments require specific documentation and holograms from the Ministry of Interior, the education department remains obligated to provide schooling for 'necessary-to-educate' students and those who were previously enrolled.

Tehran Governor Mohammad Sadegh Motamedian indicated that the reorganization of undocumented foreign residents has freed up capacity in nearly 3,000 classrooms across the province. While student numbers in Tehran city have decreased by 7,000, numbers in other counties within the province have risen by 17,000, a trend potentially linked to economic conditions and population shifts toward suburban areas.
