Tej Pratap Yadav Arrested During Bihar NEET Protest
Janshakti Janata Dal chief Tej Pratap Yadav, son of former chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, was taken into police custody in Patna on 25 July 2026 amid student protests over an alleged NEET paper leak. Police detained him from the City Central Mall and later placed him in 14‑day judicial custody, accusing him of inciting students and provoking vandalism at the Ram Gulam Chowk demonstration.
The protest, part of a statewide “Bihar bandh,” saw heavy police deployment, clashes in multiple districts, and at least 423 arrests. Demonstrators demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and called for a fair investigation into the paper leak. Authorities imposed high alert, used drones for surveillance, and blocked internet services in some areas. Separate reports alleged police used AK‑47 fire on demonstrators, a claim made by Tejashwi Yadav.
The incident has intensified political tension in Bihar, drawing national attention to the education crackdown and raising questions about law‑enforcement tactics during public dissent.
