Tej Pratap Yadav faces up to 10‑year sentence in Bihar bandh violence case

Tej Pratap Yadav, national president of Janashakti Janata Dal and son of former chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, was taken into police custody in Patna on July 25, 2026 after protests linked to a NEET paper‑leak controversy and a statewide bandh.

He has been charged under 12 sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 109 for attempted murder, with the possibility of a ten‑year jail term or life imprisonment if grievous injury is proven. He was placed in 14‑day judicial custody and transferred to Beur Central Jail. The charges arise from clashes at Gandhi Maidan during the bandh, where several police officers were injured.
