Tejashwi Yadav detained during RJD protest march in Patna

Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, was detained by police in Patna on Wednesday during a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) march toward Lok Bhavan. The protest was organized to address student grievances regarding examination paper leaks, unemployment, and the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

A primary driver of the march was the controversy surrounding an incident in Siwan on July 25, where police allegedly used an AK-47 against protesting students. While the state government informed the Supreme Court that a constable fired rounds into the air after being trapped in a crowd, the RJD is demanding accountability and the suspension of higher-ranking officials involved in authorizing the use of such weaponry.

Police used water cannons to disperse demonstrators at Dak Bungalow Crossing before detaining Yadav, RJD MP Misa Bharti, and other party leaders. Following his release from the Secretariat police station, Yadav stated he would not issue further statements until Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary takes responsibility for the situation.

Members of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) criticized the demonstration, with BJP leaders labeling it a political maneuver to revive Yadav’s influence. They maintained that the government has already implemented strict legislation to combat paper leaks.
