Tejo Ambiente announces wastewater infrastructure upgrades and pest control
Tejo Ambiente has secured approval for a €5.2 million remodeling project at the Alto Nabão Wastewater Treatment Plant (ETAR) in Ourém. Funded largely by the Cohesion Fund through the Sustainable 2030 program, the project includes a €4.4 million contribution to modernize biological treatment, rehabilitate equipment, and improve monitoring and automation systems. The works aim to reduce pressure on the Nabão River, which is classified as a sensitive zone, and are expected to be completed by May 31, 2029.
In a separate operational initiative, Tejo Ambiente is conducting a preventive pest control campaign across the sewage networks of Ourém, Tomar, Vila Nova da Barquinha, and Ferreira do Zêzere. This second campaign of the year aims to maintain public hygiene and sanitation standards. The interventions are scheduled to run through December 10, with potential temporary disruptions to road traffic and public space usage in the affected municipalities.
