Tekirdağ health officials launch first aid training for hearing and speech impaired

The Tekirdağ Provincial Health Directorate has initiated a specialized first aid awareness training program designed specifically for individuals with hearing and speech impairments. Held at the Tekirdağ Provincial Health Directorate Training Center, the program utilizes sign language interpreters and expert instructors to ensure accessibility.

The two-day training covers essential life-saving skills, including responses to choking, poisoning, bleeding, fractures, insect bites, and basic life support. Tekirdağ Provincial Health Director Lütfi Çağatay Onar stated that providing these skills to disadvantaged groups is vital, noting that correct first aid can increase survival rates by 35 to 50 percent according to World Health Organization data.

Initially involving 13 participants, the project aims to expand these accessible training sessions to all districts within the province. The initiative is supported by sign language interpreters from the Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality to facilitate active participation and overcome communication barriers.
