Tekirdağ records 90 Turkish-Islamic period gravestones

As part of the ‘Turkish-Islamic Period Gravestones-Inscriptions National Inventory Project’, 90 gravestones from the Asri Cemetery in Tekirdağ have been recorded and submitted to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The six-year project is a collaborative effort between the Tekirdağ Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, faculty members from Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University, and the International Association for Social Research Science (UTABİLİM). Tekirdağ serves as the fifth province involved in this initiative after four pilot provinces.

A 17-person team is conducting field studies to document these gravestones and inscriptions. The project aims to preserve cultural heritage and extract historical information contained within the inscriptions to ensure they are passed down to future generations. Project leaders recently met with Tekirdağ Governor Recep Soytürk to provide updates on the progress of the inventory work.
