Teknologisk Institut leads projects for biodiversity and smart agriculture
Teknologisk Institut is spearheading two distinct initiatives aimed at environmental sustainability. In collaboration with Artelia, the institute has launched the “Biodiversity as a Management Parameter” project. This initiative seeks to provide the construction industry with decision-making tools to mitigate biodiversity loss throughout the entire value chain. Research indicates that over 90 percent of the construction industry's impact on biodiversity occurs off-site through material selection and supplier choices, rather than on the construction site itself.
Separately, the Ecosystem project, involving nine partners from five countries, aims to develop intelligent, biodegradable agricultural film. This European research initiative seeks to reduce microplastic pollution in soil while improving berry production. Teknologisk Institut will develop printed sensors to be integrated into the film, allowing producers to monitor soil temperature and moisture levels in real-time. The project also focuses on circular production by utilizing berry production by-products to create new film.
