Teknologisk Institut to develop tool for ventilation system reuse

Teknologisk Institut is leading a new project called CircuVent to develop a free digital decision-support tool designed to help builders and consultants evaluate the benefits of reusing ventilation systems during renovations.

Supported by 3.35 million DKK from Realdania, the tool will allow users to compare the environmental, indoor climate, and economic consequences of reusing existing installations versus replacing them entirely. The initiative aims to reduce unnecessary resource consumption and carbon footprints, as ventilation systems are frequently replaced during renovations even when components have significant remaining lifespan.

The project is inspired by practical experiences, such as a renovation of a commercial property in Brøndby for PKA Ejendomme, where much of the existing system could be preserved. The project is scheduled to run from August 2026 to October 2027. Participants include Aalborg University's Build, consultants ABC Rådgivning and Spangenberg & Madsen, and several real estate companies including PKA Ejendomme, Jeudan, ATP Ejendomme, Catena, and Wihlborgs.
