Tel Aviv Metro launches USD 10 billion procurement for autonomous trains

NTA Metropolitan Mass Transit System Ltd. has launched the pre-qualification process for the Infra II phase of the Tel Aviv Metro project. The procurement package is valued at approximately USD 10 billion (NIS 30 billion) and covers rolling stock, signaling, railway systems, integration, operations, and maintenance.

A central feature of the project is the implementation of GoA4 technology, which allows for fully automated, driverless train operations. The system is designed to support high-frequency service, potentially allowing a train every 90 seconds to transport up to 2 million passengers daily. The technical scope includes electrical and energy infrastructure, underground station equipment, and integrated communications and safety systems.

The pre-qualification process aims to identify international and local companies and consortia eligible to compete in subsequent tenders for the M1, M2, and M3 lines. NTA is working to expand the pool of potential bidders to ensure competition for the advanced technology required.
