Telangana and Maharashtra CMs discuss Tummidihatti Barrage height
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met in Mumbai to discuss the proposed Tummidihatti Barrage on the Pranahita River, located on the border between the two states.
A central point of the discussion is Telangana’s proposal to increase the barrage's Full Reservoir Level (FRL) from the previously agreed 148 metres to 152 metres. Telangana Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy argued that the higher level is necessary to meet the drinking water and irrigation needs of northern Telangana, specifically the erstwhile Adilabad district, and would allow for gravity-based water conveyance to the Yellampalli project, reducing energy costs.
The meeting, attended by the chief secretaries of both states and senior irrigation officials, addressed technical, environmental, and administrative concerns, including water availability and the extent of land submergence in Maharashtra. Telangana expressed readiness to compensate farmers in Maharashtra according to local land acquisition rules and policies to mitigate the impact of the increased water levels.
