Telangana Board launches faculty development programme for junior college lecturers

The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TGBIE) announced a structured faculty development programme for government junior college lecturers to be implemented in the 2026‑27 academic year. The programme pairs training on the newly revised Intermediate syllabus with modules on student mental‑health, counselling and substance‑abuse prevention.

District‑level workshops will be held across Telangana, with subject experts from state universities and higher‑education institutions delivering sessions on curriculum delivery, competency‑based learning, classroom engagement and the new 80:20 assessment pattern that gives 80 % weight to written exams. The revised syllabus introduces a new Accounts, Economics and Commerce subject group and practical examinations from the first year.

Lecturers will be equipped to recognise early signs of stress, anxiety, depression and substance misuse, and to refer students for counselling or run anti‑drug awareness campaigns. A senior TGBIE official said lecturers are often the first point of contact for students facing emotional or behavioural issues.

The board also plans to expand its breakfast and midday‑meal scheme to all government junior colleges, extending the pilot that currently covers 64 colleges.
